Chicago’s AFTERMATH is one of the pioneering crossover Thrash bands of the 1980s:
a band that transformed into one of the most technical Thrash Metal bands of its time on its critically-acclaimed debut album, „Eyes Of Tomorrow“.

Its new album „There Is Something Wrong“ is an 11-song opus of TECHNICAL PROGRESSIVE THRASH METAL.

INVICTUS – Nostalgics on the height of time


2010 definitely ist the key year in the existence of this proficient youngsters. Since then, INVICTUS continuously refines their already surprisingly homogenous style, which is now presented to the broad public for the first time. 

So this wonderful melodic and dynamic POWER SPEED METAL came to existence, forged in a typical teutonic way, delivered with a lot of heart and passion. It’s pretty audible on their debut EP „Burst The Curse“ that the chemistry within the group is one of a kind.

The involved songwriting was put in concrete terms in 2018. And that’s for sure, the fresh energy and intuitive originality is going to convince retro-maniacs and traditional headbangers as well with ease.

Competent guitar work will always find its listeners in Heavy Metal realms, especially if it is performed in such a fluent and appealing way as it is by the INVICTUS Shred-Duo Fabio and Andi.

Also the fact that the voice of frontman Nico sounds natural and organic throughout his whole vocal range is a pure pleasure to the Metal ear – especially considering the still dominant vintage-trend-excess with all its falsetto-orgies. This also applies for the touching ballad „Gaia”, where the singer proves his feeling for big moments.

Anyways, the heart and soul of this group is filled with the love for the golden age of Metal, where, especially in the 1980s, classic records were released almost in masses, records that build the foundation of the genre and are collectively worshipped to this day.

And the fact that INVICTUS evokes not only memories of early Priest, but also of teutonic giants like Helloween or Blind Guardian, suggests that these Bavarian newcomers carry similar qualities.

ALTHEA – floating beauty

Floating beauty

When guitarist Dario Bortot teamed up with bassist Fabrizio Zilio in 1998 to form ALTHEA, the two initiators clearly envisioned a very special PROGRESSIVE ROCK/METALproject, which should have its own unique sound. And deviating from the standards it should be.

Immediately the two Milanese brought Marco Zambardi to the keyboard. Various demo tapes were produced, accompanied by the first live shows, which subsequently extended to many stages in Northern Italy.

Drummer Sergio Sampietro and vocalist Alessio Accardo entered, completing and stabilizing the cast of the group. Concert activities were intensified. February 2014 finally saw the release of the first EP „Eleven“, which produced enthusiastic reactions.

In 2016, ALTHEA expanded its studio activities and worked on 16 new songs, which became the concept album „Memories Have No Name“, released in 2017 by Sliptrick Records.

Both the listeners and the music media confirmed the high quality of the exceptionally tasteful material and the increased maturity of the soulful band in the Art Rock area.

Along with the release of the album, Andrea Trapani joined as bass guitarist to replace Fabrizio Zilio, who, like keyboarder Marco Zambardi, left the line-up to pursue new paths.

ALTHEA subsequently began on Italian and European stages to present the songs of „Memories Have No Name“ to a wider audience.

And the resonances on it were not only extensive, but also fully pleasing and confirming. ALTHEA played with well-known bands like Breath Of Nibiru, Kaledon, Vulture Industries, Overtures and many more.

Without interrupting their heartfelt live activities, ALTHEAfinally started recording the new and third album with the intriguing title „The Art Of Trees“.

Short bio:
Founded in 2007 in Bonn, Germany as a band of rebels, the members were intent on following their own vision: constant change. Not only do they overcome all musical stereotypes, singer and guitar player Torsten Schramm, bass witch Jules Rockwell, lead-guitar player Marvin Creek and drummer Samir Al Baw break down all musical walls inside your head as well.

Their success is obvious: since their formation the band has followed its vision without any hesitation and has played more than 250 shows so far, sharing the stage with well known bands like Crematory, The Sorrow, Sodom, Copia, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Sister Sin, Contradiction, Cripper, Rabenschrey, Monstagon and Eisbrecher while gathering many new and faithful fans during their gigs.

Und dies liegt sicherlich nicht nur an der köstlich antreibenden Gitarrenarbeit des Duos Sebastian Weinstock und Thomas Meyns mitsamt dem richtig pfundigen Gallop-Drumming von Martin Schiller, sondern auch am optimal genutzten Talent für völlig problemlos funktionierendes Songmaterial. Bassist Markus Brendel, ebenfalls gänzlich bei der eingeschworenen Sache, rockt und rollt unter dem Ganzen noch seinen ganz persönlich gespielten, dicken Teppich aus kraftvoll gepumpter Tieftonkunst aus.

Ihrem 2015er Debütalbum „Release The Hounds“ schoben die ambitionierten Bayern 2018 die vielfach erfrischende EP „Enter My Nightmare“ nach.

In 2009, guitarist Freddie Formis and his brother, drummer Dylan, lifted their own band HELL’S GUARDIAN from the creative baptismal font.

Cesare Damiolini was determined to rhythm guitar and from then he fervently took over the growl vocals. Claudio Cor then strapped on the bass guitar, and it could really start for these hot-blooded Italians.

After the completion of the line-up, the participants were able to present the first demo a year later.

In 2014, the debut album „Follow Your Fate“ was presented with healthy pride, flanked by various live gigs.

In a richly worth listening, play-cultural high-quality intersection of Amorphis, Edge Of Sanity and In Flames, the band has meanwhile musically found itself entirely.

The quartet’s EPIC MELODIC DEATH METAL, which was arranged as elaborately as lovingly and often upliftingly pompous, also made its own unique, stylistically and thematically unbreakable way.

In July 2015, the lombard hellguardians released an EP titled „Ex Adversis Resurgo“, which was able to receive many positive responses.

Furthermore, HELL’S GUARDIAN was back on so many stages, and this also with established acts like Amorphis, Children Of Bodom and Sabaton.

A bravely completed Eastern European tour can also be presented, in which the Italian-based Melodic Heavy Metallers Temperance were energetically and playfully supported on their Metal Invasion Tour.

At the end of 2017, HELL’S GUARDIAN and producer Fabrizio Romani began recording the new album in his Media Factory studio, which received the symbolically sacral title „As Above So Below“.

The second album „As Above So Below“ was officially released on September 14th, 2018.

Eine ganz ‚normale‘ und sich vollauf menschlich gebende Band – gibt es das überhaupt noch? Zumal in Zeiten, wo ein aufwändig erdachtes Image und clever konzipiertes Marketing etc. alles andere gänzlich zu dominieren scheinen.

Eine ganz persönliche und ureigene Antwort auf diese nicht unwichtige Frage geben die Schleswig-Holsteiner DRUNKEN FOOLS mit dem aktuellen Album „Escape“.

Vom unterhaltsamen Bandnamen nun gleich vorschnell auf dauerdurstige Spaßvögel ableiten zu wollen, wäre fatal daneben gegriffen.

Denn wie das überaus sympathische ATMOSPHERIC ROCK-Quintett um die beiden Stimmen Maleen und Sönke mit dem Titelsong „Escape“ beweist, sind ihre Lieder durchaus von Ernsthaftigkeit und Tiefgang durchzogen. Zu diesem berührenden Lied, welches in einer Schnittmenge aus den Sounds von Sisters Of MercyNew Model ArmyThe Cult und Fields Of The Nephilim daherkommt, wurde am 20. November 2018 ein offizielles Musikvideo präsentiert.

Gemeinsam mit dem hiesigen Fotostudio Gemke und 4K-Filmproduktion entstand ein professionell erstellter Clip, der das Lebensgefühl der Band perfekt wiedergibt:

Gestartet wurde die kumpelhafte Idealisten-Combo bereits 1996, als sich die vier Jugendlichen Sönke Martens (Gitarre und Gesang), Björn Lüdemann (Keyboard), Gunnar Hansen (Bass), Lars Lange (Geige und Gesang) sowie Marcel Riecke daran machten, erste eigene Musik zu komponieren.

In dem kleinen und beschaulichen Ort Burg in Dithmarschen wurde nachfolgend mit aller Liebe der erste Proberaum eingerichtet, kleine Auftritte in Kneipen folgten. Voller Tatendrang war man im Weiteren gewillt, der großen Rockwelt da draußen zu zeigen, das man auch was zu bieten hatte. Unzählige Underground-Formationen wurden damals zeitgleich ins Leben gerufen, die sich so oft genauso schnell wieder auflösten. DRUNKEN FOOLS aber gibt es immer noch. Allein das spricht ja schon Bände, darf behauptet werden.

Als 1997 bereits die erste CD „Auch in Dir“ veröffentlicht wurde, setzten DRUNKEN FOOLS damit erstmalig ihren Fuß ins große weite Rockgenre. Das Durchschnittsalter betrug zu der Zeit gerade mal 15 Jahre.

Obligatorische Besetzungswechsel taten der Beständigkeit dieser wunderbar unverkrampften Musikanten so gar keinen Abbruch. Drummer Marcus und Sänger Sönke schrieben zusammen sogar die Vereinshymne für den lokalen Fußballverein SV Hochdonn. Der Song wird bis heute bei allen Heimspielen der fußstarken Kicker vorgeführt, dort hält man also überall zusammen.

Es sollte jedoch bis 2014 dauern, bis wieder richtig Leben in die Sache kam. Marcus und Sönke taten sich mit Martin Lübker zusammen, der sich fortan die Bassklampfe für die Truppe umhängte.

Gemeinsam wurden die guten alten, bewährten Lieder der DRUNKEN FOOLS wiederentdeckt. Zwei Jahre später gab es gar eine Verjüngungskur: Keyboardfrau Jasmin Grünau und Sängerin Maleen stießen dazu und die Band beschloss, einen weiteren, neuen Longplayer aufzunehmen.

Es entstand die aktuelle CD „Escape“ – eine rundum hörenswerte, weil auch sofort reibungslos funktionierende Mischung aus Neuaufnahmen 20 Jahre alter Songs und einigen Neukompositionen.

Offiziell veröffentlicht wurde das zweite Album „Escape“ am 01. Dezember 2018.

Natürlich wurde alles neu interpretiert. Aufgenommen wurde diese stilistisch in allen Belangen ungewöhnlich eigenständige Scheibe mitsamt dem markanten, unter die Haut gehenden Lagerfeuer-Feeling im Proberaum in Hamweddel.

Kompetent gemixt und passend gemastert von den Kalthallen Studios in Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde, entfaltet das Klangbild des Albums eine nachhaltig reizvolle, ungemein organische und wohltuend beseelende Aura, die man ganz der Natur der Lieder entsprechend einfach nur authentisch und entspannt genießen sollte.

Und da die Schlaggitarre von Sönke in fast allen Songs allgegenwärtig ist, geht so mancher Track auch sofort in Bauch und Beine.

Und so schließt sich der Kreis ganz harmonisch. Die eingangs erwähnte, entspannt ausgeprägte Natürlichkeit des Auftretens aller Bandmitglieder, die herz-erfrischende Naivität und die unstillbare Leidenschaft für die Musik sind schließlich ein weiterer, wichtiger Aspekt des Schaffens der einfach liebenswerten DRUNKEN FOOLS. Und genau so kann, soll und wird es gerne weitergehen. (Markus Eck)
